The self is not something ready-made, but something in continuous formation through choice of action – John Dewey
Self-esteem reflects individual’s overall subjective emotional evaluation of their own worth. One way to attain self-esteem is to do well in academics. The democratization of education is achieved through our Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) mechanism in OUM. The basic principle of this mechanism is to recognise individuals learning that is achieved through life or work experience (eg: formal, informal and nonformal learning).
Intake from APEL (A) has increased remarkably from 2016 (2552 students) to 2017 (2686 students). This number has grown to 3111 students in 2018 and this clearly proves that OUM is giving opportunity to more people to achieve their dreams.
The strategic mission of APEL Centre is to widen access to higher education by granting recognition to individuals with prior experiential learning for the purpose of admission and award of credits. The Centre ensures that all its initiatives and practices adhere to the regulations outlined by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). For more information on APEL (A), you may contact APEL Centre at 03-27732556/2786.
