About Prof Dr Shamsul Nahar

Dr. Shamsul Nahar Abdullah is currently Professor of Accounting at the Cluster of Business and Management, Open University Malaysia, which he joined in May 2018. Previously, he was Professor of Accounting at Al-Madinah International University (MEDIU), Professor of Accounting and Finance at University of Dubai (AACSB accredited), Professor of Accounting at International Islamic University (IIUM) and Professor of Accounting at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). He started his career as a tutor in accounting at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM, AACSB and AMBA accredited) upon completing his bachelor’s degree.

He currently serves as the external examiner for bachelor in accounting programme offered by University of Technology MARA (UiTM) and University of Tun Razak (UNIRAZAK). Previously, he had served as Director of the International School of Muamalat and Finance and Dean of the Faculty of Finance and Administrative Sciences of MEDIU; Deputy Dean for Postgraduate of IIUM Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences and Dean of the Faculty of Management and Economics of UMT. He had previously served as a member of IIUM Audit Committee, a member of IIUM Holdings Sdn. Bhd. Audit Committee, a member of the Board of Directors of Daya Bersih Sdn. Bhd., a member of the Council of CPA Australia Malaysia Division and a member of the Council of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.

He has written papers which appeared in academic and professional journals at international and local levels which include Strategic Management Journal, Managerial Auditing Journal, Asian Review of Accounting, Journal of Management & Governance, Asian Academy of Management Journal of Accounting and Finance, Corporate Governance, Malaysian Accounting Review, Jurnal Pengurusan and Asian Academy of Management Journal. In addition, he has also reviewed papers on ad-hoc basis for such journals as Corporate Governance: an International Review, Asian Business and Management, Organization Science, Social Responsibility Journal, Asian Business and Management, Managerial Auditing Journal, Asian Review of Accounting, International Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Performance Evaluation, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, Corporate Governance and Accounting Research Journal. In addition, he had served as the Editor for IIUM International Journal of Economics, Management and Accounting and currently serves on the editorial board of Asian Journal of Accounting and Governance. He has successfully supervised a number of master’s and doctoral theses in the area of corporate governance, financial reporting, corporate social and reporting and management control system.
